RESIDENT ORGANIZATIONS

The Cultural Development Corporation (CuDC) is pleased to announce its inaugural group of Source resident organizations. Following an open call for applications, CuDC convened a panel comprised of arts professionals to evaluate applications from performing arts groups looking to be housed in the newly renovated Source.

Constellation Theatre Company

Constellation Theatre Company is dedicated to creating theatre that is epic, expansive and essential. Under the guidance of Producing Artistic Director Allison Arkell Stockman, Constellation Theatre Company has leapt into the DC theatre scene with productions at Source of August Strindberg’s A Dream Play in a new version by Caryl Churchill and Mary Zimmerman’s The Arabian Nights. Constellation's shows venture outside the staid, predictable realm of everyday life into an arena that is startling, magical and symbolic. Visionary, expressive design and elevated language are combined with heightened physical movement and ensemble acting techniques. Like bright lights in the dark sky, Constellation illuminates the human experience in ways that are powerful, dynamic and relevant today.

DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative

The DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative promotes the arts and humanities as basic and integral to a high-quality education for all students in DC public and chartered public schools. The DC Collaborative was founded in 1998 by representatives from DC’s public schools and chartered public schools, the arts and cultural community and the local funding community, that recognized that Washington’s rich cultural resources were not accessible to all public school students and teachers, especially those in economically challenged neighborhoods. The DC collaborative is a community based partnership organization now more than 80 members strong, working collectively to promote quality arts and humanities education through their Arts for Every Student programs and professional development initiatives for teachers and teaching artists.

Washington Improv Theater (WIT)

Since its re-founding in 1998, Washington Improv Theater (WIT) has been the fountainhead of a growing improvisational theater scene in the nation’s capital. In their 2007 season, WIT presented over 200 performances to DC audiences in 30 original productions created by over 40 improv artists and was named a Mayor’s Arts Awards finalist in the category of Emerging Artist. WIT recently expanded to three company ensembles and two house teams and also conducts a year-round improv training program reaching over 300 students. WIT’s mission is to unleash the creative power of improv in DC and to engage audiences with performances that exhilarate and inspire. The revolution will be improvised.
