| ABOUT THE SOURCE CAMPAIGN The show must go on! That's what the DC theatre community cried upon learning late spring in 2006 that the venerable Source theatre at 1835 14th Street, NW would be sold and redeveloped. Theatre lovers throughout the city refused to accept the loss of this historic performance space, the home of Source Theatre Company, which for nearly 30 years had nurtured the careers of many luminary playwrights, directors and actors. At Cultural Development Corporation (CuDC), we felt compelled to heed the call for help. Recognizing the pioneering efforts required to establish Source and its lasting impact on the arts scene along 14th Street, which now teems with galleries, theatres and nightlife, we created a plan to purchase the building and restore it as a home for the performing arts. After purchasing the property in October 2006, CuDC launched a $3.5M Source Campaign to fund the acquisition, renovation and operation of Source. Plans include adding an upstairs rehearsal studio, classroom and workspace for arts organizations, replacing all sound and lighting equipment in the facility and improving ADA accessibility. We will also replace the roof, HVAC system and restore the façade. When renovations are finished in late spring 2008, Source's black box theatre will again play host to some of the area's finest talents.
